The Trained Retrieve
Learn how to work this important step in your dog's training, spending a
weekend immersed in the procedure, one-on-one with your dog under professional
instruction.
The Trained Retrieve, also referred to as Force Fetch, is the key to a
finished retriever. There are numerous books that touch on the subject,
but without hands on experience, it is difficult to do on your own.
The seminar begins on the first evening with a lecture and discussion
describing the process and for the next two days, you will be working with your
dog under supervision and progressing through the basic steps as the weekend continues.
I will be both demonstrating and assisting you as needed, and we will be able
to work two dogs at a time using multiple tables set up for the class.
This phase of training really makes a dog responsive and respectful, while
enhancing their natural desire to retrieve. It bolds up a passive dog, and
gains the respect of assertive dogs.

Everyone tells you to not rush your puppy's training. What does
that mean? It doesn't mean do nothing...rather, it refers to teaching your
pup to respect your leadership by developing behavioral boundaries, without
expecting the dog to perform like an adult. These
puppy seminars give you the tools to do just that. By the time your dog is
old enough for formal training and serious bird work to begin, you'll have it
prepared and ready, accepting and willing. Think of this as a kind of
"puppy kindergarten" for bird dogs.
You'll learn to work with your puppy using the Silent Command System
developed by Rick Smith. You
will be amazed at how well your dog responds to training when we don't allow
our emotions and our voice to interfere!
During the seminar, you'll work with your puppy on going with you, standing
or sitting still, and coming to you. An introduction to birds will be
offered, using live pigeons. Other topics covered will include
socialization, leading, letting the dog learn from experience, and much
more.
These are fun and packed with loads of good information and experience.
We hope to see you there!
